See I knew you didnt have to buy everything a company puts out and can vote with your wallet! For you its graphic window-dressing, for me GW slots.
I'd argue being able to let me do more with the game >> playing this game in high-res for me. Just like your desire for factions >> need for slots, for you. Ok I'm done here, I now return you to xbox360/pc chat.
(I got the xbox/pc going on, but no I didnt take the xbox360 plunge)

Graphics make not the game!
That said, that it was slotted for console release to begin with in my mind doomed it to being crap. Consolation (as in "let's make this game dumbed down enough for use with a control pad mashing kid") is rife in the industry these days - I dare say the majority of games are all flash graphics and no real substance (no matter how nice this particular one looks) That it even had to be reduced from that is deliciously ironic.

Graphics is like blonde girls, their pretty to look at but dumb and empty inside.
Gameplay is all about for selling games. I mean look at GTA series, it have crappy graphic yet the gameplay and the amount of freedom given to each players make it the best selling games out there. Also to support my hate for xbox360 and Microsoft. Go to my thread about them!

i'd be more impressed by that if the video was taken at the same spots

Quite lame to compare game which will be released 30th March 2006 to game which has been released May 2004
There is not any PC-game out yet which has better water simulation as in Far Cry but that doesn't mean PC hardware can't do it. Maybe they focus to something else than water or they want to increase console game sales by delaying PC-game graphics development. Business is unpredictable.

No offense to you guys, but comparing PC graphics to console graphics -- even if it's a powerful system like the 360 -- is really pointless. There are things you have to consider on both sides. First off, as someone else mentioned, a good PC with a lot of RAM and a high-end PCI-e graphics card will be able to showcase nearly all of Oblivion's visual beauty and effects. The mere fact you can swap out graphics cards versus the fixed GPU in a 360 means that a PC will almost always deliver better results.
However, let me tell you the flipside: for all its bells and whistles, the 360 version of Oblivion is STILL a *first*-generation title for the system. At this stage, the developers are still learning the hardware, still learning what the system can do. Which means that you shouldn't dismiss the 360 version simply because it doesn't "look as good" or seems crippled to you versus the PC edition. It's simply way too early to pass judgments on the 360 like that. ALL consoles tend to reach their full potential after a few years, that's an established truth of the console industry.
So my advice is, whichever version you purchase, take a deep breath, sit back, relax, and ENJOY it.
